We are part of the Nidderdale Cluster of Primary Schools which stretches up the dale as far as Pateley Bridge and almost to Harrogate. Working together we have joint sporting events as well as Gifted and Talented workshops for our children. The headteachers know each other well and support one another in all aspect of school improvement.
Our federation has been in exisitence since 2016 and is a thriving, self-sustaining entity. The inclusion of highly regarded pre-schools at both settings enhance our core offer. Our headteacher, Nick Coates, is executive head of both schools and splits his time equally between the two schools.
Our school is part of the National Teaching School’s Alliance and supports our local lead school in aspects of school leadership and continued professional development. The lead school, Askwith Community Primary School, one of only two within the authority, is supported by us in delivering bespoke training in many aspects of school improvement ranging from supporting and training middle leaders to embedding assessment for learning in all lessons. Being a member of the Teaching School Alliance means that we are in a position to provide our services to other schools. Services, overseen by our lead school, and provided by the Alliance include Research and Development, Initial Teacher Training, Teaching and Learning expertise and Middle leadership Development. Our headteacher has been trained by the National College of School Leadership on delivering the Middle Leadership Development Programme to aspiring middle leaders. He is also an ILM level 5 coach.
As one would expect, our committment to succession planning and nurturing the next generation of teaching professionals is a key aspect of our work. We regularly provide PGCE placements for trainee teachers as well as offering work experience opportunities for young people interested in working in schools.
